In general sense, it’s using ones body to manipulate someone else into an advantage position with the intention of scoring points or holding them down on their back. As with any contact sport there is a possibility to get injured. In general there are rules of wrestling in place to prevent injury. Our highest priority is to foster a safe environment for kids to learn the sport of wrestling and come back wanting more. Kids start wrestling at any age. We recommend to parents that young kids only do the shorter Novice season for at least one year so they do not get overwhelmed with a long Competitive season. Wrestling is a sport of longevity. If you start your kiddos young it's important to keep it low pressure and make it fun so they want to continue the next year.
No, you may pick and choose what level of competition you want to be involved. Opportunities range from in-practice ‘Live’ wrestling with practice partners, Friday evening opportunities for exhibition matches with other local clubs, and various ranges of competitive tournaments. Many times young and beginner wrestlers choose the route of Friday exhibition matches through our GRAWL league only. The next step up would be evenly matched competition in the WARZONE format. Once you commit to serious competition you can get a MYWAY membership card and wrestle in 'Novice' tournaments for beginners and later in the 'Open' division.

At the 6th-8th grade level your student can wrestle through the Caledonia Duncan Lake Middle School sponsored wrestling program. 6th Graders will be provided a shuttle after school to the DLMS wrestling room. This season starts in January, lasting around 6 weeks. More info can be found through final forms at the DLMS athletics page. The wrestling club is a separate organization, but works closely with the Middle School and High School coaching staff. We often offer a pre-season camp to help jump start those interested in joining the DLMS program. Once the school sponsored program is complete your Middle School wrestlers have a couple club options (MYWAY and WAAAM) to continue wrestling into the spring/summer.
